It took about 10-12 pallets and it was A LOT of work getting the wood off of them! Do NOT try to do this in the blazing sun when it is 100 degrees and muggy outside! lol The
trick we discovered in the end, was to saw through the boards on the
sides of the pallets right before the joist underneath. Then just worry
about removing the nails in the middle joist.
We attached the boards using a nail gun and "grab it" construction adhesive. When we were done we sealed it with Minwax 1 Quart Minwax Water Based Satin Polyurethane 63025 (Google Affiliate Ad), (no fumes and easy clean up) We put ceramic tile over the brick, because we didn't want the wood right next to the fireplace opening.
The hearth still needs to be re-tiled , but that will be another project!
