Starting some plants for the beach cottages

So after renovating the interiors of the cottages... we are going to have to cut back on the landscaping budget! :) Even though we are not totally finished with everything on the inside, I am thinking ahead to when we start the outside projects.
Of course I have a wonderful vision of a fully matured landscaped yard , but in reality the outdoor budget will probably be pretty small. So I decided to take some cuttings from plants I have growing at my house in Wilmington, and try rooting them in water. Some of them I have done before with success - others I am trying for the first time.
I knew I wanted hydrangeas, lantana, and oleander, and I also started some rose bushes (not in the photos above)

I am hoping that by next spring I will have some decent sized plants to put outside!
*To take the cuttings I just grabbed my handy scissors & headed out in the morning.
*I brought out mason jars filled with water  & took cuttings from healthy, newer growth     of the plants.
*My stems are about 8 inches long and have 1-2 leaf nodes ( this is where the leaves attach to the stems)
*I cut the stem on a diagonal, and removed all the lower leaves.
* For the oleander and rose I cut a small slit in the bottom of each stem because I had read online that this helps :)
* I put them all in water and placed in a warm location to promote root growth.
Now we just wait...... I will keep you posted on their progress!
Have any of you started plants like this? I would love to hear from you!
Happy Day,
Lisa
